My solution (to disconnect the heater of the unused section) offers improved economy, due to eliminating the unnecessary consumption of electricity and valve life

Make the 3 caps bigger (eg 47nF) and use a 1M audio pot wired backwards, ie so slowest speed and highest resistance is at CW.
