Princeton Reverb Mixer vs. Dwell vs. Level vs. Attenuation

Post by ViperDoc »

I put my Princeton chassis into a 112 combo with a Warehouse ET-65 speaker and it sounds great. The reverb sound is subtle to WOW that is thick fast, to "I'm swimming into that black hoooooooooooole." I feel like I lose the fundamental unprocessed tone fast with this reverb circuit. What is the best way to create more dry signal into the wet-dry thing in a combo setup? Thanks for taking a look at it.

Here's the schematic:

My thoughts and questions are these:

1) I know I can replace the reverb input 1M resistor with a 1M pot for a dwell control. If I drop some of the input signal to ground, I manage it that way, but how do I do that without creating a master volume?
2) I can change the 100KL level pot to a 100KA pot for a slower change early on the dial.
3) The mixer circuit is a parallel 3.3M resistor and 10 pF bright cap. The bright cap seems incredibly small. Anything wrong with putting a 250-500 pF on there? I would think that would bypass those frequencies out of the reverb circuit.
4) The fixed attenuation is 470K. I can put a 1M pot on there and increase (or decrease) the attenuation to taste. If anything, I could see a 470K in series with a 500KL variable resistor. Not sure I'd need less attenuation.

The tone control of the reverb signal interests me. How would you recommend controlling that?

Your advice is much appreciated! I'm going to build another with improvements. Thanks again.
Just plug it in, man.

Do this first. Could very well be all you need to do. Best mod for those Fender circuits.

Increase the value of that 470K resistor off of the reverb pot, you can also play around with lowering the value of that 3.3 meg reverb mix resistor, but note that as you do that the effect of that brite cap across that resistor will diminish.
