Anybody know what this is...?

Post by Charlie Wilson »

Hello, I inherited a bunch of old amp parts and I found this Fender board but I have know idea what it is. It looks like it dates from the early 70s.

What is the number stamping on the cast of the pot as that would nail down the year of production?

The use of those brown caps and the white Mallory electrolytic cap tells me it's from the mid 60s to early 70s era and since it's on PC board I would say it's out of one of the short lived SS Fender amps that they made for a while of which nearly everyone blew up its output stage!
Can you post more pictures of it from different angles?

The inductor makes me think it may be a Fender Fuzz Wah pedal. I had one during the late '60s but don't remember what the guts looked like other than the round inductor. Google has some pics but the inductor is mounted more to the center of the board.

A further clue would be what voltage the Brown coupling caps are?

And it would help if you unwrap that mess of wires and post a pic that clearly shows the component side of the board.

Here is a better picture of the board and the other boards that are with it. The caps are 200v and the pots date 1968. I guess I am leaning towards the solid state amp idea. I didn't realize Fender made a solid state amp that early. OK this is starting to make a little more sense. Bob Risson(Rissi?) apparently designed the Fender solid state amps and he has been selling a bunch of parts in my area. I am thinking the guy that had this stuff before me got them from Bob.

Maybe a Bassman SP3100? My grandpa gave me one when I was 12 or 13 and it let the smoke out which made me first want to learn how to fix amps. It's been a long long time but it looked kinda like that inside. They went for max crammage on those things.

The board with the metal heat sinks on the 3 main Transistors looks like a driver board for the outputs of a solid state amp for sure!
My bet now that those are out of one of Fenders SS. super reverb model amps as they sold the most from what I recall.

I guess if i live another decade i'll see crappy Fender sandy state amps become collectable and go for big $$. Maybe the Japanese collectors will sell off those glass cased Strats to buy all that garbage.

Would the inductor be associated with the "Style" switch?

Can't find good pictures of the inside of the SP3100 besides this: https://www.scolopendra.it/dettaglio_st ... 100-a19196
Doesn't quite fit the layout, but that line of amplifiers fits the PCB color and style.

See this pdf for pictures of the Solid State Twin Reverb SR2100: https://gitec-forum.de/wp/wp-content/up ... b_pt_1.pdf

It's definitely from that line of amplifiers, just not the SP3100 or SR2100
