Tremolo issue

Post by Stevem »

So I have a 65 Vibrochamp I have all up and running well but for the Tremolo.
When you turn it on it pumps like it's a jogger slapping a treadmill!
I have checked quite a few things and I may be to the point of saying that the oil tag board is conducting.

Anyone ever see this with the Tremolo circuit in a small Fender like this?

I'd say the simplest explanation is the right explanation. The slapping tells us the tremolo is oscillating and that is a good thing. Something is bleeding off the signal to ground? Conductive board seems reasonable. Time to rebuild it? Is there any way you can desolder the parts from the board and just let them hang in free air for a test?

Well last night I stumbled on the fix and why I did not see this I can explane, but I can not understand why it fixed it!

I noticed last night that the amp was missing the bypass cap on the second gain stage and when I added that the Tremolo issue was history!
I even removed and added the cap 3 times to prove I was not dreaming!

Now the last issue with the amp is it has a distorted fuzz tone at the end ( ring off ) of every note and I have always found this to be a bad tube or speaker, but that's not the case with this amp , so tonight I will go thru another pull my beard session and hope that something slaps me in the head again, lol!

I just finished working on a Vibro Champ that had a weird fuzz on the decay of notes. It happened at any volume - not just cranked. Turned out to be the volume pot.

Good Luck!
