A friend lent me this book and while it's not on the same level as Merlin Blencowe's books, it would be good for a complete novice. As far as mods in the book go, some I had seen and others I hadn't seen such as converting the the Fender reverb circuit to a Gibson circuit. There was a section on converting the normal channel in the Fender amp to a Marshall configuration using a IRF820 FET. I suspect there would be issues with this mods as the P.I. wouldn't have enough gain.
The book does talk about mods to Fender Hotrod Deluxe/Deville amps too. The friend who owns this book has found these mods quite useful.

I'm not using the book to mod a particular amp so much as discuss the book and work out the value of the book. I have noticed it has a couple of typos in it. Some of the discriptions do seem a little cumbersome but I suppose they are step by step accounts.
He is a fan of Fender 6G style of tone controls as opposed to 6G*a style tone controls.
Falla mentions turning a Fender style reverb into a Gibson style reverb, I question the value of that as Gibsons AFAIK aren't noted for there reverb.
There are Hotrod Deluxe/Deville mods too.
