Bassman PT wire colors

Post by erwin_ve »

Hi, I have a questions for you Fender experts.
I want to use a original J022822 PT that once was in a Fender Bassman 50 from 1975.
I believe this is a export model and can't find info on the wire color identification.
If any of you can point me to this it would save me a lot of time, especcially on the primary side of the PT.
Thanks, Erwin

Thank you Martin! Wire colors are corresponding with this schematic.

You could also apply voltage to a pair of the primary leads (Black and Black/Red, say) and then measure the voltage from the others to Black and see if they line up.

I have a Bassman 100 I'm working on now to build that Dumble clone, it's highly likely the colors are identical, let me get a photo of it, if I remember, and post it here with what mine's doing.

I've worked on several Bassman 50 amps that is why I have the schematic but I apparently did not save any work photos besides not sure if the Export version is the same mostly likely very close but....

Don't know why I didn't think of this until now, but I do recall I took a photo of it with my camera hooked up. Here you go:
Bassman100PT.jpg
So from this I'd say:

Red pair is B+, Red with Yellow Stripe is CT
Orange is likely a farday cage
green are heaters
blue with red is bias
Black/white is primary.

Does that seem to fit yours?

Hi all, thanks for your pics and suggestions! Appriciate this much.

Phil and M.Fowler: your pictures with the colors on the secondaries are in match with the 022822 PT.

I checked several pics of silverface Bassman 50 with voltage selector on the back and they all have the 117, 200, 210, 220, 230, 240v selector. Gonna hook up the primary with the blk/grn wire(230v )and see if I can get the right voltages at the secondaries. Since this unloaded is it likely to have 30v higher on the B+-CT?

Measured voltages with the blk/grn wire primary.
The secondaries measure unloaded
B+: 341v-0-341vac
Bias:57vac
Heaters: 6.8vac

Seems pretty close except for the bias tap, but that may be a design change. What was your line voltage when you made these measurements? You should really adjust the readings to reflect high or low input voltage.

Line voltage was 232v.
