Dropping secondary voltage for 6v6 range

Post by Heisenberg »

I have a transformer I want to use for a 6v6 build but I am afraid my voltages will be off. The transformer is a weber w022798. I see 120/125v primary and 330-0-330 sec taps. Trick is I want to use a SS recto as I plan to use the 5v tap for relays. My math has me around 450-465v on the plates with the 120v tap. I want to be around 400 incase I ever use older glass. Here are the options I've compiled to drop my B+1;

- Zener center tap

- Use 125v primary over 120v

- 25w power resistor post rectifier / pre plates

Link to the transformer below.

Anyone been through this process or have any thoughts/input?

Choke Input sounds ideal, but what choke to get? Something like a 10h 200ma?

I used a Hammond 193G Filter Choke - 10 H, 150 mA in a amp with 2x6v6, 12au7, 12ax7 and a 6sj7. It can handle 800v, some of the smaller Hammond chokes are max of 600v. I think my PT is 340-0-340v and gives a B+ of about 310v (IIRC).
