30-50W Blackface clone in a small head box??

Post by jazrok »

Hi

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever made (or just know of) an AB763 type circuit minus the reverb and tremolo in a small head that puts out between 30-50W?? Any advice on transformers, schematics, design would be appreciated.

Cheers

Antique electronics has what they call a Mod 101 kit that has everything you need, and is rated at 60 watts, but even 30 watts is loud and you would want a attenuator for that at some point more than likely!
Once it's built and you learn more you could build in a power scaling set up to lower its output to whatever you want!
This kit uses a FEnder blackface type tone stack and a long tail PI section as in a FEnder also, at 500 US dollars it's a good value for getting everything top to bottom while only paying one shipping cost!

How about the Dumble Small Special or the Dumble converted Princeton drop off two power tubes for 50w.

I recently built a BF Bassman, bass channel only (but with the bright switch form the normal channel in addition to the deep switch). I built it on a TrainWreck sized chassis and put it into a tolexed TrainWreck style cabinet. Cool head. Love the Bassman circuits (Blond and Black). I used an Edcor PT (thank you RJ) and a Magnetic Components OT.

You can do it on the cheap in these Judy Box amps. Rip out everything except the transformers, pots and sockets. The cabinet and the speaker are good.
