Fender silverface Deluxe reverb

Post by ampmike »

Hey Fellas,Ive been trying to fix this amp.Its a long storey of problems but along the way I thought I may have got the popping distorted sound fixed. It did this after warming up and the harder you played the more it did this. But now the latest proplem is very low volume in the normal channal.Tried swapping some tubes and noticed when you pull v1 it screams in a high pitched squeel. Before this I put a new rec tube and replaced the plate resisters.Swapped out the output coupling caps,The only other thing I did was put diodes in place of the rec tube for about a week and read that the DR isnt a good candidate for that change so I switched it back.So I would like to get the normal channal fixed before I deal with the main issue i started with. And help and sugestions would be apreciated,Mikey

Something is not stock. V1 is the whole Normal Channel preamp. With it pulled, the signal has nowhere to go and no amplification.

Have you changed the bypass caps in the reverb section?
Also filter caps might also need replaced.

If you have any JJ preamp tubes, try replacing them with something else.

does the reverb have more of an effect on if it makes the scream noise when turning up the reverb?

Has the output transformer every been replaced? Does the brown wire from the output transformer go to the output tube near the rectifier tube as it should, or does the blue wire go to that tube which is not right for a stock OT.

Somebody dropped that poor baby right on it's face with a nice sturdy plug in it's Vibrato channel input.
Ouch--it's not easy to dent a Fender chassis.
It's certainly got the Silverface Flying Wire thing going on--lead dress is going to help somewhat.

The cap that should come off the 2nd stage of the normal channel is connected to the wrong node. The side connected to the blue wire is correct but the other side needs to go to the adjacent node that has the plate resisor and plate wire on it.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
