What would happen if I replaced my 6L6GC with tubes that weren't 6L6GC? This is for a Fender Blues Deville Reissue 4x10. I'm having trouble with it and suspect a tube mix-up.
Thanks!

Re: 6L6G? in place of a 6L6GC
6L6GC has a higher voltage rating than other 6L6 variants.
6L6GC can be used in amps designed around the older, lower voltage model 6L6 tubes. I would not think they are generally interchangeable going the other direction (using 6L6 in an amp designed for higher voltage 6L6GC).

NickC,
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'm suspecting that's what happened to this amp, but can't really verify (I don't have the old tubes). Any idea what the symptoms or the outcome would be if this did happen?

I suspect a 6L6G, placed in a circuit designed for 6L6GC, would fail.
Tube failure can also take out other components under certain circumstances, including output transformers (depending on circuit and protection built in).

Thanks again! I'll give it a look.

Very helpful. That should do the trick.
