Blackface era fender combo cabs

Post by beasleybodyshop »

Does anyone have any info on making blackface era fender combo cabinets? I'm building a blackface princeton reverb in a head cab format - anyone have any tips for doing the angled front and top pieces?

Ah! I see. So the slant on the front is a 3 degree angle? That sounds mighty shallow - Ive seen the chassis front plate to have around 20-25 degree angle.
Whats the length/width of the top part of the cabinet after you cut it?

Great job on that build so far Xtian, I was considering a combo but i am sold on the idea of a PR head unit.

I used this plan:

http://www.brieskorn.de/Guitar___Amps/V ... .4_eng.pdf

But increased the height by an inch or two to accommodate my 12" speaker.

As you can see the 3-degree slope is for the baffle, and there is a greater angle, 25 degrees, for the control panel. I made these cuts in three passes, and then rounded everything off with the 1/2" radius router bit.

Excellent! Thanks for the plans. I assume you are using a mojotone chassis?

Thanks for the clarification, xtain. When I read your post a few weeks ago, I thought "the control panel seems like it's got to be more than a 3º angle" :D
