SCROLL DOWN TO SKIP MY PREFACE
Hey guys, I'm a newb to amp building and new to this forum. I'll start by saying that I can read schematics pretty well. I've built about 50 pedals. I've repaired, modded, hot rodded all sorts of amps using my basic knowledge. And I built a D Allen amp kit. I understand basically how amps work. but I have a lot to learn.
I'd really like to build a standalone rack preamp based around a fender reverb. I got the idea from the amazing sounding demo at strymon (boutique digital pedal company) I wanna have a super clean FX type rig for my ambient project. They run-- a dirt pedals>tube preamp>cab simulator>modulation/delay/octave/filter pedals>full range power amp and FR speaker cabs.
Looking into it, I saw that jerry garcia ran a fender twin reverb thrown into a head cabinet and tapped for a preamp out which he then ran into a mcintosh SS power amp>JBLS (now that seems like it would be CLEAN) Anyways I found some info on how to tap just the preamp of a fender amp so that you can use an external power amp.
END OF PREFACE
But I'd like to build a stand alone fender BF preamp with spring reverb and the extra gain stages involved in that. I know what parts of the circuit are preamp/power. But I'm not sure exactly what transformers I'd need and how to wire them up if I'm not going to need the whole power section. I'm not planning on needing to mount this in a rack or anything as I know having a reverb tank too close to your transformers will cause some issues.
Can yall point me in the right direction to enlighten and educate myself to get started ordering parts? I found that someone made a PCB for the alembic f2b (fender showman preamp- no reverb no extra gain stage). But I cant find the actual pcb artwork or layout. and thats not what I'm really wanting anyways.
Sorry for such newbness. But if you have a direction for me to head I can educate myself and come back with more specific questions.
Thanks so much!

Re: Stand Alone Fender Preamp
Look for the Alembic preamp. It's a Fender style deal.
