layout, bias trem conversion from opto, '68 Super Reverb??

Post by 212Mavguy »

Hi, anyone do this mod? Curious about how it was after doing it and also how to...I like the sound of bias trem in other amps I own, and didn't know how difficult it would be to convert this blackface circuit opto bug trem non master amp. Not having much luck with search engine, need to learn the right keywords I guess.

You can start here with circuit schematics: http://www.lynx.net/~jc/tremoloCircuits.html

I think the biggest challenge will be adding a tube, unless you have an unused triode and use a one triode design.

He'll have two unused triodes if he kills the opto trem.

It is pretty easy to do, I did this on a super reverb the other day. I'll see if I can find my notes from the conversion and upload them.

Here you go (see attached). This is rough, but it should get you there. Ignore the 2.2M at the top of the board (I think that was left over from the old trem). The 1M hanging off the .01uf at the top of the board goes to ground.

Also, check this out, it may be more helpful than mine:

I'm really enjoying it on mine -- I did the mod primarily because my opto roach was burned out and I didn't have any more on hand. In the end, though, I think I prefer it. Have fun!

Thanks, your responses delivered exactly what I was looking for and then some!! The links are very informative. Got some more reading to do now... This is a good thing for me to learn. I have amps with opto as well as bias trem.
