That tells a story right there. ^^^^^^

Anecdotes, in this case, are golden.

This build has made me realize just how much I love EL84s. With the Elegante, both the AC30 and the Bassman show me just what that speaker likes and doesn't. I also had the .68 cap in the Bassman and when I took that out I was SOOO relieved by the taming of the treble and allowed the volume pot to bring the volume on a lot slower and not as loud when it's on 8 or 9 o'clock. She still breaks up literally at the lowest point on the volume pot, which is almost a whisper.... Awesome! :D

Tried 6V6s in there today with a switch back to the 8K. I may prefer 6V6s overall, compared to the 6L6 variety. Fortunately, the pair was a pull from an old Pacemaker mike amp that's real old, so they're only 16ma apart!!!! Biased up best I could and kind of dig it. These tubes have a very even tone. Not too bad for RCA grey glass that far apart. Guess I know what Ken meant by 6V6s sounding more 'Hifi'. Need to build an amp with a quad of 6V6s... :D
