United breaks guitars

Post by gahult »

This is pretty good.

When guitar player Dave Carroll traveled to Nebraska for a tour with his band Sons of Maxwell, he witnessed his Taylor guitar being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago.

The guitar was severely damaged and after a lot of communication he was told that United wouldn’t compensate him for his loss.

He promised the last United person he spoke with to make 3 songs and videos about the way United Airlines handles luggage.

Here’s the first video:

The promoter for the venues I'm at, He played in my area last year,
was excited that he carried thru and made
the video. Its a top rated down load too, I wonder if united will demand a residual
for the video sales because he used they're name.

That video was posted on 6 Jul and has already had 500,000+ hits.

The linkee to his website explanation doesn't work for me.

Wonder if he got Uniteds attention and they're not happy, lol.

I hope so. I'm glad to see he's fighting back. I'd be pissed too!

Hmm, that is the one that worked for me this morning.

But not now for me either.

The same story that was on that site is on the link that takes you to his MySpace...scroll down a bit on the right column.

There is short version and long version.

Even the link on his MySpace to:

http://www.davecarrollmusic.com/story/u ... ks-guitars

takes you back to his MySpace.

So it could be a redirect because of the number of hits there.

I don't know fer sure just a thought :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Breakin' guitars never appealed to me even when Hendrix and Townsend did it.
Airlines think they can get away anything, and, sadly, they usually do :(
Obviously, the bad attitude displayed by the baggage handlers is reinforced by management

Over 1.5 MILLION views on You Tube so far, no doubt hugely inflated by the exposure on national television. Don't you just love how the UAL PR guy is trying to spin it as a win-win positive outcome? Messed with the wrong guy, huh. Can't you just see folks walking through airports humming that little ditty? Great exposure for the band, though; smashing a guitar seems to have that effect one way or another... Then there is the publicity Taylor is getting. Let United give any compensation to charity... I bet ya Bob Taylor will give the guy a new guitar!

A few years ago I flew Continental from Newark to Denver with a $300 guitar in a nice hardshell case. I put a strap around the case to protect from opening accidently since we can no longer lock cases.

When I got there the strap was missing, and 2 of the 3 hinges were broken. I opened the case and found the high E string missing. Not broken, missing, not even the broken end was there.

The case was a total, but the guitar undamaged except for the missing string.

No respect for peoples property by the baggege handlers. The only explaination is someone opened the case, threw away the strap and played my guitar. When the string broke that was discarded as well.

I didn't place a claim but I no longer check my guitars. I carry them on in a gig bag and put them in the overhead.

The wife and I just returned from a trip down to San Jose.
It was her fathers 80th birthday so we had to go.

We flew with Southwestern since they seem to have the cheapest rates.

Even still, it cost me $600 for two round trip tickets.
This is barely an hour and a half flight.
It is a common commuter flight between Silicon Valley and Silicon Forest in Hillsboro, Oregon.

It's like, once we get to altitude the jet cruises for about 20-30 minutes then we start the descent to the airport.

The jet was a Boeing 737. Seems like the last time we flew it had two seats on one side and three on the other.
These jets have three on a side.
The center aisle is so narrow you can't pull your carry on bag behind you.
You have to carry it in front of you.
They were packing 137 people on these flights!

I did see two guys with gig bagged guitars bringing them on board.
But, if you are touring and can't afford the private jet, how are you supposed to ship your guitars and other paraphernalia to your gig?
You are at the mercy of these dipshits that like to toss your stuff around.
I believe these guys and gals make pretty good money so they should not have an attitude with the luggage.
I really hate the thought of some asshole tearing up a guitar in a case.
That is lower than a snakes belly in my opinion.

And of course they overbooked both flights forcing them to offer perks to anybody that would give up their seat.
How the hell do they make money doing that?
So $600 for the tickets, $60 to park my truck in the economy short term lot.
$200 for the house (dog) sitter.
$200+ for spending money......
So we spent well over $1,100 for four days of visiting her father.

I'm glad we went but I'm still not working so that took a lot out of our reserve savings.

Man, that could have been a brand new scratch built Marshall!

A buddy of mine flew Delta to Honduras recently. They broke the headstock off of his Epi explorer. They paid him the retail cost of replacement immediately and let him keep the (now repaired) broken one. Retail cost=he was able to buy a Gibson with the money.
