Oscilloscope

Post by C Moore »

I have been keeping a look-out for a scope on Craigslist. Have not found the right one so far. Is there somewhere better to look for a used, 2 channel, 50 MHz, analog scope?
Thank You

I've been watching ebay and craigslist for a scope as well. A while back I was considering going towards a computer interface scope, whether usb or there was one you could build into a standard sized bay. Both ran around 75-100$ and seemed to have a lot of functions.

I've never had a scope, so I was hoping someone could speak to their preference between a bench-top or computer form.

It seems like having easy access to the knobs on a bench top scope might be less agrivating in the long run.

This next on is a Superb Deal!!!!!!!!

Another one

Now buy one of these. No excuse. The 453 is good people. Off the shelf components for the most part. Also, you'll probably pay more for a pair of 10K probes than for the scope. You should look for Tek brand probes. Here's a nice probe but it's missing the clip:

I scored a Tektronix 465 with a built in DMM on the 'Bay a couple years back, it was only around $150... they are easy to find there as I recall...

Great scope.

Wow!
A 35 Meg, 2 channel, 2 trace scope for $500.00. Of course I realize you pay what you get for. But this is just a hobby for me. I do not need to look at AC very often. But I f I had a scope on my desk it would not just collect dust, i would find reasons to use it. And like I say, this would be for my own education, hobby, self improvement, etc. etc., call it what you want.
Any of you guys have experience with this TENMA line of electronics?
Thanks

Deals can be had, you just have to be a bit patient. Got mine as a BIN from a guy closing his CB repair biz. Consequently, he knew it worked and was (somewhat) calibrated.

A 15 or 20 mhz dual trace scope is all u need for audio work. Do yourself a favor and buy a new one. They are cheap.

Well, respectfully disagree. A used working 453A is an extraodinary value in a military/research lab quality instrument. You can calibrate it yourself with your DMM and a 9 volt alkaline battery. I've had mine for 20 years. Not a burp. And who cares if it's calibrated anyway?

You should find a 465B version and some have the built in
DMM or counter option and they are out there at around $150-$200.00
I wouldn't get the 465 since it is much older and the B version
has all the upgrades.
The 453 and 453A's have a much smaller screen and are lower
frequency.
Bottom line an older tek is a better investment.

I picked up a 20Mhz HP 120b for $20buck + shipping off ebay it's more then enough for most bias and trouble shooting. Currently it makes a great second to keep the first scope honest.

That sounds like a nice scope. Is it dual trace?

Yes it's dual trace. I've beed very happy with it. I really like tha cool vibe it gives off with the big screen kind of reminds me of when the sub used to come into port and give tours when i was a kid.
