Frampton at Showcase Live, Foxboro

Post by muchxs »

I saw Frampton at Showcase Live outside of Boston last night. It's a new venue attached to Gillette Stadium. I used to avoid shows at Gillette, they're like the horror shows from the concerts rant a couple threads down.

Showcase is a new venue, they've been open a little less than a month. It's a little different as clubs go, New England Patriots money buys a better that average club. Bigger. Better laid out. Super P.A., great stage and great sound, not a piecemeal system put together with a component here and a component there as funds allow.

The format is dinner with a show. No dance floor. Our table was right in front of the stage. That area can be cleared for a dance floor.

The show itself? Kicked ass! I'm not even a Frampton fan or I wasn't before the show. My girlfriend is the Karaoke Queen, she knows all the lyrics to all the songs regardless of artist or genre going back 40 years or so. He covered "Black Hole Sun" (surprise!) in addition to requisite Frampton faves like "Show Me The Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do". He finished the set channeling George Harrison with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as an encore.

Favorite Frampton moment? An aging groupie offered up a Frampton LP to be autographed right in the middle of the set. The man didn't miss a beat, he sang "I'm kinda busy right now!" then dropped out for a couple bars and autographed the record.

The man obviously still loves his work.

Sounds like a great show.
I have his Fingerprints album which came out last year or so. He does Black Holes Sun on that. He has Warren Haynes and a bunch of other people on various tracks. Its a great album.
If you read the liner notes, they used some cool stuff on it.

It was a great show. It made up for driving through traffic to get there.

Like I said I wasn't a Frampton fan although I am now. I'm always up for more great classic rock. Talk box is a bonus. Warren Haynes is a bonus. I bought the tickets because "Do You Feel Like We Do" gets a slot on our local classic rock radio station every Sunday afternoon.

I was a Ted Nugent fan when "Frampton Comes Alive" was on the charts.

"Vintage" Frampton t-shirts were available at the merchandise table in the lobby. He looks a lot different on the t-shirt.

July 3rd 1975 I saw Frampton opening for Skynnyrd in Jackson , Mississippi.
The lady that was standing beside me .... is still beside me. It was our first date. Of course Frampton rocked seriously.

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,

muchxs...in case you didn't know, before he went solo Frampton was the guitarist from Humble Pie. See if you can find the live album at the filmore. I think it's called "humble pie live at the filmore", but it's been decades so my memory may be faulty. In any case, listen to that album and you'll become an even bigger fan of his. He played amazingly back then. He's a shadow of the young frampton today. still good, but he killed back then. Plus it may make you a fan of Humble Pie ! that album was great, framptons playing aside.

Back when Frampton was contemporary he was entirely off my radar. Zeppelin, Sabbath and Deep Purple were my cuppa tea. That about covers it. Page, Blackmore and Iommi made my list, Frampton didn't.

I don't know about, "He was better back then". It's almost unheard of for a musician to be less of a musican as they get older. Drugs, auto accidents, some guys can withstand a lot of damage and still play better as they get older. What really impressed me is that Frampton obviously enjoys playing the same songs all these years later. He enjoys it and it shows.

I assure you he was a much better player from what i have seen of him in recent years. That album showcases his playing and as far as i'm concerned he isn't nearly as good now. As for players getting worse, i'm a perfect example. At 55 my playing is pathetic compared to how it was just 10 years ago. Nerves, muscles, and the connection between nerves and the brain worsen with age for some people. Not to mention you lose the fire you had at 20 or 25. I've seen a lot of world class players who don't play like they once did. If you don't believe me, don't buy that album. But it's IMO his best playing ever and certainly a lot better than his playing in recent years.

"Rockin' The Fillmore" - I cut my teeth on those guys back in the day. Great singer now gone. Frampton's Les Paul with the 3 pickups was the sh!t.....
