How Much Does a Mortar Cost?

Post by Winder »

Damn. Every 4th of July and New Years now it's like "The 'Nam" around here. Got Shirtless Joe in the cul-de-sac, people behind us, people in front on the next street, next neighborhood ... for miles around, launching mortars for a couple of hours. Not bottle rockets, but thump-two-three-BOOM! friggin' mortars like you normally see only at organized events ... only they don't go as high. I have debris in my yard ... half a bucket full last year. The half bucket was from the idiot across the street who was launching straight at by house. Nextdoor neighbor had a rocket hanging out of the grill of his brand new F-150. Had a enough that night and ended it before they burned my house down and followed up this year pe-emptively by letting them know it was going to be an issue if it happened again. Just crazy. I like a fireworks shows as much as the next person, but not with old Billy Bob halfway into a 12-pack manning the canons. Freaks the dog out too.

I love it we fire off guns and explosives too. between the displays from the church behind me that sells fireworks and the country club down the street and the neighbors it was like WW3 here last night. I've only got one eye due to a fireworks injury but it was totally worth it.

now having to pickup other people's trash and having mortars launched at your house is not cool at all. generally people arpund here are pretty respectful about things like that .
its funny how some dogs freakout and some just totally ignore it. ive always had corgis they try to.attack firecrackers i had one that you couldnt even leave a gun out cause she'd try to eat it

I, on the other hand, absolutely hate the explosions, but that's due to my PTSD from Iraq, so I just down a bunch of whisky and beer to settle the nerves and hide out in the house all night.

Fireworks don't bother me. But, opening day of deer season is nuts. My house is surrounded (on three sides) by state land and I stay inside all day. It's amazing that nobody gets killed.

Phil, I can't even imagine. I have a good friend that is a Nam vet and all I can do is watch...

Hadn't thought about PTSD. That must be rough. If I didn't live in the suburbs, it wouldn't bother me as much. We're not zero lot-line, but it's fairly tight quarters for launching explosives. My wife tried to walk the dog this evening, and he freaked out in the same spot as yesterday. No explosives today.

Tony. That's another level. Probably nice for most of the year ... except for that part when you could die if you go outside! Damn!

Yeah thanks, it isn't a fun time of year. When I lived in Utah it was the whole month of July that sucked. They also celebrate a holiday on the 24th of july for the pioneers that came to Utah, and they do fireworks again, which basically means almost non stop between the 4th and the 24th people find reasons to do fireworks.

Glad I live in the PNW now lol.
