Cool stuff at ApexJr!

Post by jelle »

Hi guys,

I recently got a bunch of these really nice filter caps from ApexJr: they are US made caps:

'BMI was formed in October of 1990 when a group of former Sprague Electric employees, purchased the Sprague Electric miniature aluminum manufacturing facility in Hillsville, VA.' (http://www.rjcomponents.com/m/48/barker-microfarads-bmi)

And they work well in circuits like Fenders where otherwise a 20uF would be used.

Great pricing too. Sprague quality for a fraction of the price.

Are these current production, fresh caps? USA made or just USA owned?

Steve from ApexJr informed me today that he had a new batch made from BMI, so these are new, not surplus.

great deal on some nice caps. I have a /13 loaded with them also. The Samwa 20uF are a steal too, seen them in lots of boutique amps as well.

The BMI 33 Uf 450V axial caps I have in stock now are date coded
35th and 50th week of 2014 And USA Made

The 22 Uf 450V caps are being sold to a lot of tube amp manufacturers
and to other dealers too. You will see these in a lot of amps.

Thanks for the plug.

Any more values incoming? If they had a 47uF...Either way, still awesome to find some made in the USA at reasonable prices!

I was wondering who was making those "looks-like-Spragoo" caps found in Mesa gear . . . Nice to know freshly made quality caps like these are available at an excellent price. Who needs Holy Grail, we got our own secret weapon: BMI & ApexJr ! Hope to see more BMI values available in the future.
down technical blind alleys . . .

Maybe BMI has all the business they need, or strictly OEM, but you'd think they'd push their product more, contact CE-Dist, Mojo, TAD, Mouser etc. I love e-parts especially big chunky ones like e-caps, I've been into this stuff for many years, always looking for something new (or old) and never heard of BMI. They must be happy being low key, though it's odd.

Can someone please open one up and find out if they do the little cap in a big cap thing like Sprague Atoms? Leo, maybe when you replace a cap in a Mesa?

The MIUSA thing will sure look good in builds and repairs, be sure to point that side up :D

I bought 15 of those a year or so ago, great price indeed. Mine are dated 1334 so they were pretty new when I got them.

Steve has good deals on NOS AB 2W pots, if you want to do some work on them.
