Calling all ears - whats this tone

Post by angelodp »

I know this is silly, but I love this tone…. in this Reeses' peanut Butter commercial.

1. Guitar ?
2. Amp?
3. Pedals if any?

Much appreciated if you happen to know

Blues Saraceno... I have listened to him since his first CD. Loved that riff when I heard it and wondered if it was him.

His dad makes most of the Dirty Boy pedals that he uses. I doubt the amp is anything special... He can make anything sound amazing. He does like to use a lot of different guitars and low wattage amps in the studio. Amazing player... Everyone who has had a set of ears within the last 15 years has heard his music yet almost no one has ever "heard of him"...

Get your hands on anything he has put to CD. He has amazing chops.

IIRC, Blues's dad also used to build (still does ?) his amps and used built-in internal variacs before mosfet power scaling became popular.

Blues is definitely a great and almost obscure guitarist to the populus.

Another great song feels and sounds like a ten ton hammer blow, drop C?

This is funny because that riff has been going through my head since I see that TV ad all the time.

As far is what he uses for guitar and amp, not sure.

Maybe a Champ and strat? :D

There's hardly a better limiter than a cranked guitar amp, then the engineers pass it thru an LA-2A or 3 or 4, 1176, dbx 165A ot 160, maybe all of 'em, iron it flat, fold it up & put it in the linen closet. If that's not enough, limiters at the broadcast studio, they call 'em levelers or volumax. Flat n shiny like a fishing lure and don't people bite on that?

I remember Blues Saraceno appearing in ads in Guitar Player in the 80's, a bright looking young man with an earnest look on his face. Can't say I've heard a note out of him though. Maybe by accident in jingles. If he makes some loot in jingles, good for him! All I was ever to figure out about Blues, is his favorite color is plaid.

Could easily be a Champ or a Princeton.

I met Blues way back in the early 90's when his Plaid album came out and we chatted for a bit. Super nice guy. He was picky about tone, and apparently preferred to lay his Marshall 4-12 slant on its side because he didn't like the bass response with the feet or casters on. He didn't like 24 fret necks because of the neck pickup harmonic response and before he was known he would saw the top two frets off of 24 fret necks when he was building a guitar. We chatted about this stuff cause nobody our age was at the clinic so we hung out for a bit after.
Been a long time and still one of my favourite players!!

To my ear it sounds like a hollow tele and a single ended Dearmond with the 6x4 7 pin rectifier. I'm sure I'm wrong though, it's probably an ibanez through a sansamp.
