So I am in DC on my honeymoon, and I spot this little gem at the National museum of American History. On a side note, there was almost NOTHING on vacuum tube tech or it's contribution...
Anyways, info says it's one of the earliest Weller soldering irons.

I had a very similar model when I was a kid. It had a small screw-in lightbulb just below the tip posts, that illuminated the work. It also had a two position trigger switch for low- and high-heat. I can hardly remember what I ate for breakfast - i have no idea why I can remember stuff from 40+ years ago!

Lou, I had one too - but IIRC it only had a on / off trigger and was similar to one pictured in the advert. Back in the 70's I used to solder these wild looking spider web antennas to try to pick up Chicago am radio stations better... I much prefer my metcal today. Next time I'm at my parents house I will try to take a pic of it...
