Hi All,
I am thinking about trying to scratch up enough dough to buy the El Capistan delay pedal by Strymon. I've been viewing their demo videos over and over like a crack head for the past two days. This is a DSP modeled tape echo, and it has what sounds like very accurate and effective controls for Wow and Flutter, Tape Age, Tape Friction (Crinkle), and Head Bias. I am completely mesmerized by this thing.
Has anyone here played through one? What are your thoughts? Does it really live up to its design intent?
Here are their demo videos:

Many thanks,
Lou

Thanks Mark. I didn't realize by bracketing the links, I caused them to be non-functional. Bracketing usually ensures functionality if the link is so long that it wraps to the next line, so I tend to do it by default.

Impressive. Sounds a lot like my old bucket-brigade analog delay pedals ..... but with more control/bells-and-whistles.
I like it. I want it. I don't need it, but I want it.
I need more G.A.S. like I need another hole in my wallet.

It does sound nice. The main reason that I have gone to a digital delay is programmability. Lot's of memory for settings that can be accessed via midi control. The El Capistan doesn't have any memory? They programmed a DSP for all those Echoplex idiosyncrasies and didn't build a memory interface. That's tragic and a deal breaker for me.

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I agree.... somewhat. You can add what they call their 'favorite switch', which allows you to store and recall one preset. This allows you to toggle between your favorite and the current settings of the knobs and switches. But since all the functions are available without having to spiral down into a deluge of menus, changing the 'program' is pretty quick and simple.vibratoking wrote:It does sound nice. But for $300, you'd think they'd at least give you a MIDI input (or even USB).
