Hacked email

Post by LeftyStrat »

Apparently someone hijacked my email account. I've reset my password, but it appears my account may have been used. I've got some strange recent replies to mails I never sent.

If anyone receives mail from me for cheap viagra, great stock tips, or a great new web site to meet girls, please disregard.

It was me. Miles put me up to it. He threatened my life and said he'd smash my tubes if I didn't...

Sorry.

Wait what? So you are not stranded while overseas and mugged? You don't actually need a few bucks to get to the embassy? Who did I send the $$ to then? :roll:

Oh well... Just joking above but this is the type of message I received recently from a friend's email account after it was hacked. Sorry you had to experience something like this. It does feel bad. Hope you don't end up suffering financially after all this.

Dood, glad you are out of jail. How was Namibia?

You can owe me. It was only $12k. As luck would have it I won a Nigerian lottery. I just sent them the $5,000.00 verification fee by Western Union. They are supposed to wire $48,893,000.00 into my checking account in the next few minutes.

New amps for everyone!! Yay!!!

By the way, I would not be surprised if they weren't just spoofing addys from your book back on you. Much more common than other shit.

Pretty sure it was my email password. They only sent mail to the addresses in my inbox.

I thought about getting a new email, but by this stage of the game the only thing left is probably clownpenis.fart:

Search your own mailbox to see if in the past you communicated any sensitive info such as your credit card or SSN etc. Sorry but only the paranoiac will survive... :D

@Lefty: ROTFLMAO!!!

A couple of weeks ago I got a message from my protection that someone in the Ukraine was trying to use my address and password. So I changed it (immediately) and have had no problems from it. Whew!

It can also be a Trojan that hijacks the email and sends stuff to everyone in your address book.

Be sure to do several full scans for malware. :wink:

One way they get email passwords is when people set up their smartphone emails without encryption. Always use secure email settings and never use unencrypted POP settings otherwise anyone sniffing the wifi you are on can see the passwords.
