DIY: World's most expensive amp (BOM)

Post by Reeltarded »

Let's go crazy! No, not sane crazy. I mean full bore nutso cray cray!!

The knobs are a no brainer. Those $450 jobbies will do, unless there are better ones. Anyone have the link to the audiophile power cables?

The rules should be something like no gratuitous spending on diamond knob pointers or solid gold bus wire, unless it's pseudo-scientifically proven to make the sound better. Can we spend a million bucks on a head and cabinet?

I found speaker cable for $7k/m

I found a luxurious fabric for the grille that is $4k/yd

Maybe one of the rules might be a fake budget to by an historical piece of hardware to use as a donor? What is a space shuttle made of? Would it sound better made out of space cycled aluminum?

How simple a circuit can we get to over a million bucks? :)

Miles!

Have you forgotten about the $50,000.00 gold chassis that Alessandro offers? The hell's the matter wit you??

These caps might work out, though they might be on the low end. Anyone know of any that are sonically proven to be better and therefore justified to be a hell of a lot more expensive?

Lots of work to be done! :x

Maybe these too, though we may need to find someone else who REALLY charges for that tube instead of a measly $900 per pair.

And Miles, if you really want to up the ante, we should probably incorporate moon rocks as well. I'll get the ski masks and rope and you get the ladder and glass cutter! I'll drive us to NASA!

That's the spirit!

Gold sounds fairly pedestrian. What about platinum? Can you buy it in heavy sheets? :D

Those caps are uhhh... a little large.

LOL, I think the knobs I did on my Bubinga Express will top those.

resistors non inductive wound from platinum wire will be required

Ongaku silver trafos are a must as well.

I have access to an Argon laser welder with 10X binocs, that's probably the way to weld the parts together.

How many 300B in parallel SET will it take to reach 50W?

Got to have vibration damping tube sockets.
I'll ferret them out later.
Spendy little buggers.
Transformers - hmm.
Could use real TW transformers.
Buy an original & gut it.

You ARE the guy for this project. I was thinking maybe the wood for the cab and headbox might be sourced in a number of museums and/or the Vatican. We should brand the amp as "Napoleon" and use his slightly ostentatious uniform (retailored by someone expensive) as a cover for the headbox.

Run with it! haha

The Strad idea is cool. We could have custom ply made up!

The turrets should be carved by hand by Rolex expatriated craftsmen, out of Donald Trumps gold cufflinks.

ROLEX TURRETS!

Patek dial faces as knob surrounds! In fact Henry Graves faces would work for the output selector pretty nice, as long as the selection is made very complicated. :)

I keep picturing the speaker cab.
Instead of grill cloth, the Mona Lisa is there.
Prolly have to poke some holes in it.
It would save the time needed to paint the cheap $4000 stuff.
:P
