"Sound City" movie - Rupert Neve's 8028 console

Post by brentm »

Watched a movie called "Sound City" this evening. You've probably heard of it, but if not, check out the trailer...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQoOfiLz1G4

Then go get the movie.. If you love music, you'll enjoy this movie.

The number of artists, tracks, and songs we all know and love that were recorded in this studio was amazing; I had no idea!

There's a part in the movie when Rupert Neve talks about the Sound City 8028 console board's 'magic'. He discusses some technical elements of how and what makes a sound board so amazing! It made me turn what he said on what some of us are doing on here... and the science (and luck) behind getting a great sounding piece of electronic equipment.

I'll watch the movie again this weekend when I can have the volume up a little higher. It's not exactly smoothed and I kept having to adjust the volume to not wake up my little girl.

Anyone see this flick?

Actually, my girlfriend turned me on to this movie. She's a David Grohl fan. I watched the movie with her and was pleasantly surprised! Great movie!

My copy showed up yesterday. It's a great film, especially if you are of a certain age. I noticed right away that the sound quality is outstanding, and very dynamic. What would be cool is an "engineer's cut" that really digs into the technical details. The interview with Rupert Neve was disappointing because it is literally chopped up, for effect I guess. It would have been great if it were included un-cut for the geeks. There is some bonus material that I haven't been through yet, but I don't think it's in there. Grohl's studio 606 is awesome.

For fans of Neve, some good stuff here: http://famous-first-words.blogspot.com/ ... rview.html

Saw this last night and what a great movie!

It was full length which I was surprised, a nice 1 hour 50min music film.

I have always liked Dave Grohl but this movie just made me like him more. What a super cool dude! Was pretty seeing the remaining members of Nirvana rock out with Paul Mcartney.

Dave is hilarious. We have a few things in common but I seem to get in more trouble. ;)

I like it when he takes shots at cultural garbage. He has it right. Nothing so sacred.

I take a lot of heat when I talk about Hendrix.. or Zeppelin.. or.. Tawd Rundgren.. or Rick Rubin.. or what I really think about.. Clapton. Robben Ford was a way better bebop player than that schtick he has played since he left the Jackets.. that shit rips! That blues thing? White teenager? Sounds like guitar hero to me.. but missing every note.

Bonk bonk bonk bonk bonk
