New Richard Thompson album: Electric
I'm listening to it right now. It's really good. His lead work and phrasing is just so different than anyone else.

I'll have to listen-up.. I'm holding tickets for his show here in April. He's a great player for sure.

Good news! Been a fan of his work for 30+ years. Didn't know he had a new one out. I'll grab a copy tomorrow. He's one of those rare artists that I buy their releases automatically without needing to hear one note of it in advance. Always outstanding.

I'm hoping he plays Seattle. His website doesn't seem to be up to date as far as tour dates.
Was trying to find info on what gear he uses. Saw one article about using a 64 Deluxe Reverb.
Just love his playing. First time I heard "Grey Walls" I was in a car in Atlanta and had to actually pull off the road to listen. That solo just does an incredible job of reinforcing the lyrics.

The new one is incredible and a bit of a departure. It's a three piece band. But still has his impeccable songwriting and killer playing.NickC wrote:Good news! Been a fan of his work for 30+ years. The only complaint I have about the album is it's too damn short.
Here's a live performance of another track from the new album.

Another older fav:

And I married a redhead so this line strikes a note with me:
Said James, "In my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a '52 Vincent and a Redheaded girl.
Now Nortons and Indians and Greavses won't do.
Oh, they don't have a Soul like a Vincent '52."

I swoon for redheads too, and I came real close to marrying one. I'd marry a cute one right now even if I didn't like her
52 Vincent is a great song, if you're a Bluegrass fan Del McCoury does a righteous cover.
I'm a huge Fairport, Richard & Linda fan. Henry The Human Fly is a can't live w/o album one of the few I'd grab if a tsunami was coming at me, not much after Shoot Out The Lights moved me but I liked the new album on first listen.

Re: New Richard Thompson album: Electric
1952 Vincent is great, and so are redheads ;^). The last time I saw RT live in the middle of playing Vincent he reached up and tweaked his D-string with his left hand and did not miss a beat fingerpicking with his right. Yow! He has said he was going for a Bluegrass feel when he wrote it but he definitely made it his own. Re the Del M version, "And down to Knoxville they did ride?" That's just wrong.
