I'm looking for a good source for a JJ 500V 40-20-20-20uF cap. I've looked at Angela Insts. but don't want to pay $10 for shipping one cap; Hoffman and AES are the other places I've looked but are more expensive. Any other suggestions?
This is going in an early sixties Gibson Skylark BTW.
Thanks,

Eurotubes has them. $15 plus $7 shipping.
Re: Inexpensive Source for JJ Multisection Cap?
Don't forget the mounting clamp for the cap; it's bigger than the clamps
used by the old LCR brand for the 50+50/500 Marshall-type caps.
I think the JJ clamp is 1.5" for the 40+20+20+20 and 1.375" for the others...
Anyway, it'll add a couple bucks to the cost.

EDIT> Also, I think you'll find the JJ cap may be too big (diameter) without
enlarging the hole in the chassis; something you may not want to do.
(I have a few NOS LCR 40x20x20x20; I'd sell you one IF it would be a better fit for your repair...I dig "No Cuttin', No Drillin' type repairs if at all possible!
PM me if you end up needing one.

Is the cap can in question a Mallory FP type?
Twist-tab mounting in the chassis?
If so, it seems some of these are being made again;
Check out www.radiodaze.com, these may be a perfect fit.
Hope this helps.

Re: Inexpensive Source for JJ Multisection Cap?
Thanks for the quick replies! I'll probably go with Angela I just wish I needed some of the other stuff they have to make use of the rest of the shipping charge. The amp belongs to a friend of mine. He picked it up at the local GC and I'm going to get it up and going for him. It hums horribly so this is the first step.
I don't have the amp yet but took a quick look when I was at his place last. It is the cardboard tube style cap with the leads attached internally. It is the same type of cap that was in a Kalamazoo Model 1 I had ten years ago. I should be able to mount the JJ in the same place after modifying the clamp - it mounts horizontally to the chassis - no hole to make bigger. :^)
Thanks for your inputs!
