Newbie, Hello All!!

Post by memphisrain »

Howdy, thought I should take a minute and say 'hey.' I stumbled across this site looking for Dumble pictures for the D-lite build from Normster and Brownnote. I may eventually take it up to a full blown ODS, but right now am undecided.

A little about me: I've been playing around 11 years. I play mostly blues, but I'm currently moving into jazz and especially fusion, hence the quest for a dumble clone. I'm currently listening heavily to Ford, Carlton, Henderson, and Gunthrie Govan. I built a Weber JTM 45 kit last year, and I've got the itch to build another. Damned hobbies, I'm sure you all know how it is. I'm a college student at Ohio-State, so my funds are pretty limited, but I make do with what I can. (Hence the D-Lite build)

The site looks like a wealth of information. I'm currently working my way through the Dumble threads.

Hi mR

I'm just down the road in WV near Huntington. (Marshall country) Are you going to get a chance to go the the Columbus Guitar show next month?

Welcome to the board. Even if you are short on cash to build a Dumble or Dumble-lite you can apply what you learn here to mod your own amp on the cheap. 8) Good luck!

PS- don't forget about school and studying! This board and ampbuilding in general is very distracting, especially to girlfriends and wives!

Thanks for joining the board. It's always good to have fellow Buckeyes here on the board. I'm a '94 grad from OSU. You wouldn't know it by my amp building skills but I graduated in Electrical Engineering. What are you studying?

Dana - what is the date on the Columbus Guitar show? Is it worth making a trip down for? I remember it being a pretty good show in the 1990's but I thought I heard it had gone downhill a bit.

Omar

Here is a link to the show http://www.ohioguitarshows.com/

Last year was the first time in about 15 years that I went. I had a good time meeting a few new people and checking out the stuff. I picked up a cheap guitar for testing amps and a bunch of NOS tubes at great prices so I had a good time. I have heard the same thing that " they aren't what they used to be" but if I spent my life listening to what everyone else thought then I would never go anywhere.

UR12,

I kind of forgot it was coming up. I'm not sure whether I'll go or not, the last couple of years it's been less and less fun. Why? Well, first, the show has outgrown the venue and it is extremely packed in there. The isles are generally packed shoulder to shoulder and it makes looking at everything pretty hard. Secondly, there's really not much in the way of vintage stuff anymore, which is what I like to look at. Mostly, it's just music stores from Ohio and some surrounding states trying to sell their over stock.

However, this is just my $0.02, so don't let me discourage you. If you've never been, or it's been a while, then by all means go. If I have a chance to meet some of you guys, I'd be up for going though.

keithrick,
Yeah, I learned a lot on my last build, although, unfortunately I forgot most of it since I haven't used any of it since I built my JTM 45. Yeah, school keeps me busy, but I've got to have something fun to do so I won't go crazy. I'm also fortunate enough to have an understanding fiance that puts up with all of the gear stuffed into the corners of our apartment.

Omar,
I'm currently studying Biological Sciences and plan on doing my graduate work at Michigan Tech in Environmental Science and Molecular Genetics. I was going to go to medical school, but decided that I'm not capable of handling a high volume of people everyday. I also don't want to spend another 4 years at this university.

Anyways, it's nice to meet all of you and I look forewords to learning what I can from this board. If you all want to get something together for the Guitar Show, just let me know, I'm game.
