Re: Ventures first drummer video
The theme to Hawaii 50 was popular when I was an impressionable kid. I always new it was cool, but didn't realize who the Ventures were at the time. I found out eventually.
Great music. Thanks.

Re: Ventures first drummer video
I worked a sound gig at a large festival in Ashland Ky in July of 2008 and got to meet Nokie and Bob before he died a year later. 2008 just happend to be the 50th aniversary of the band and all off the guys were really a class act. I was back stage looking to get the back line checked out and ran across not one but two OLD SVTs. I was peering in the back of one of the SVTs to see what the tube complement was and I heard a voice asking "You, know anything about those amps?" I started to explain that one had 6146s and the other 6550s and that the one with the 6146s was old as dirt. Bob's face lit up and asked if I could date when they were made. We struck up a conversation and I explained I use to do warranty service for Ampeg and had seen a lot of them through the years and that the oldest one was late 60s. Nokie had just bought an old Fender Standalone reverb and couldn't get the footswitch to work so he came over an interupted our conversation looking for his guitar tech who was off feeding his face somewhere and I told him I could look at it. Turned out to be a loose ground on the switch cable which I promptly fixed for him. The old guys finally took the stage to a crowd of a about 10,000 and completely blew me away with their sound from the truly vintage equipment. It's one of those memories that I will never forget and for them to come back after all that time and invite the General to set in with them and give him the award just shows what a class act these guys was.

Ha Ha I'm use to it. There was a sign at a church posted on facebook recently that listed all of the people/groups who were going to hell. One of the groups listed were Musicians. Of course my reply was, I guess all of us drummers are safe.Structo wrote:Yes very cool, don't take my jab seriously
