Freakin Awesome!
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
Re: Freakin Awesome!
What's Albert playing there…is that, like, a quarter-scale guitar?
Big hands, big heart.
Big hands, big heart.

And making that Showman just rip!
Love his sound-stinging and fat at the same time.

It's Lucy I, a 1958 Flying V. That V just sold no more than 8 months back in an auction of Richard Gere's stuff for sooooo cheap.
He's pretty good.. Not to mention one (and the first) of three Kings.

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Re: Freakin Awesome!
Cool clip! The best part is his obvious sweet spot for those treble string bends and soft pick attack. I was thinking the same thing, but he was sighing like a pretty angel walked in the room half naked every time he hit those notes.

He played with his fingers, no pick. That's a big factor in the
stinging tone.
He also used different tunings, some quite detuned to get those bends.
E B G D (from the high strings down) were tuned to C# G# E B.
This cut is one of my favorites also:

I love his microtonal bends. Although it helps to tune down to C#. He has alot of control and a great thought process. His bends are hard to hit with decent sized strings in concert pitch.

Re: Freakin Awesome!
Is that a Showman or a Bandmaster Reverb?
Re: Freakin Awesome!
I saw him in maybe 72-3. He was using a new V, left handed with LUCY inlaid on the fretboard and a full sized headstock. He was also using an Acoustic amp. His tone was exactly the same, stinging with tons of harmonic content. Great show but he looked really road weary.

What's always interesting to me, is I occasionally hear a lick that reminds me of Hendrix or Page. Guess we know where they got them.

Re: Freakin Awesome!
I have to correct myself, the inlay on the fretboard said Albert King, the headstock said Lucy.

Me too. More snap with the fingers, better control of the slap on the frets.
Plus you can't get that kind of edge with a pick-rolling the string off a finger tip, and catching it with a fingernail, that's the sound.

I shook hands with Albert once and it was like putting your hand into a baseball mitt! That guy had some serious hands!

The Horseshoe Casino in Robinsonville Mississippi had that V on display along with some of his leisure suits ( lime green , if I remember) on a lifesized picture of his tourbus for a backdrop. This was about 7-8 years ago, so they might have removed it by now.He was using a new V, left handed with LUCY inlaid on the fretboard and a full sized headstock
Albert gave Jimi a left handed V which he played in the Rainbow Bridge movie. However, my memories from the Seventies aren't chrystal clear. They are more foggy and smokey with a slight chance of brain.

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,
