Anyone making their own AC power cables?
I'm working on my rack setup and have a Furman single space power conditioner, and it sits 6 inches away from a voodoo labs power supply or something similar. Rather than folding up 3-4 feet of un-needed power cable, was thinking about making some very short AC cables, and maybe with right angles on the IEC side as well.
Anyone build their own and have suggestions, or places to purchase very short AC cables?
thanks,
sean

Re: DIY Power Cables
I believe I bought the last batch for my PA racks from PartsExpress.com.
They are out there. I have not seen an elegant way to put the connector on them that doesn't look like something that belongs in your grandfather's barn, but I will probably start saving the IEC end anyway when I convert an amp to 3 prong or replace a power cord again.

You can purchase these off the shelf in varying lengths.
I was looking on Mouser's site. Part number 686-17002A is 1.5 feet in length. I know there are probably a ton of them in Mouser and other sites.. as well as your local electronics store.
Like Gibsonman63 said, the downside to rolling your own cables is the ends are bulky. I think I've seen some IEC C13 connectors that are lower profile than the wall side. But they still look a little clunky IMHO.

Re: DIY Power Cables
As long as the IEC cable is detachable you can buy replacement cables in all standard lengths: 1ft, 1.5, 3ft, 6ft, 8ft, 12ftlions den wrote:Anyone making their own AC power cables?

If it's a fixed power cord and a perminant installation you can cut it fit and add a new connector.

Re: DIY Power Cables
I got a box full of Hosa-brand IEC to 3-prong, in short lengths on a close-out sale years ago. Really helped clean up the cabling in the racks in the studio. A few of them are "Y" types allowing a couple of pieces of rack-gear to share one 3-prong to the AC feed.
