I know a lot of the Dumble guys like Robben Ford so I thought I would review a couple DVD's I bought a week ago.
These are videos of his clinics that cost $235.
The first one is The Robben Ford Clinic: The Art of Blues Rhythm
Now, if you don't read music or can't follow rapid instruction and more advanced playing then this probably isn't the DVD for you.
He goes through some chord theory and demonstrates them.
There are four complete songs.
The disc also has a PDF file with the notes and music that he demonstrates.
I found it pretty good and he talks a lot about how he approaches music and how he puts it together.
He is a self taught guitarist and I found a lot of similarities between the way I learned and his experience.
There is a section on major triads in rhythm and a discussion about 12 bar blues.
Remember he started out playing jazz so coming from that to rock blues makes an interesting combination.
Playing jazz chords in the blues.
He stresses that a good blues man should have a good foundation in playing rhythm before getting into soloing.
The next DVD is The Art of Blues Solos.
He talks about developing your style and how he used to listen to the greats as it was being laid down by the likes of Eric Clapton and Michael Bloomfield.
This DVD has four complete songs.
Techniques such as picking and sliding are discussed.
Altered scales and blues scales.
He talks about recording studios and about his gear.
The part about his gear was pretty revealing.
We often think these guys like Robben are obsessed about their gear and all the nuances that go with it.
But what I find with pro touring guitarists that many keep it very basic and they basically let their fingers do the talking.
Anyway, two thumbs up and I will be buying more of his clinic videos.
