Anybody playing with music and audio apps on an iPhone? I have the Four-Track recorder which is pretty cool and works quite well with the iPhone's internal mic, and Guitar Tool Kit has a number of handy things in it. If you want a really great tuner, Peterson's iStroboSoft tuner app is killer.
Some other things that look like they would be very fun and useful seem to get variable reviews. The PRS or Giffin or iRig interface cables for instance (that let you direct-in your guitar and monitor with phones at the same time) seem to get either good or terrible ratings due to compatibility and quality issues.
Then there are the audio tech apps with signal generators, o'scope, and FFT spectum analysers like Pocket RTA, etc. Some pro audio users report that these are serious tools. Again though, they get some glowing reviews but other users find them buggy or inoperative. It does seem like a lot of the issues are with the iPhone 4, so maybe they will catch up eventually.

Re: iPhone Stuff
I've had limited luck with the apps in the iphone I found the built in microphone to lack the frequency response needed to be precise. The apps that support an external microphone were okish... nothing I would use when it mattered. the tuners are ok, gibson makes an ok free tuner app. The RTA apps I've used all had a weird low end shift that made them unreliable.
Where I'm most excited about apps is in the ipad. Yamaha released an app that allows you to mix on the ipad. you can walk the stage / room and dial in the console.

Some RTA's allow calibration of the iPhone's internal mic, and some have calibrations included for specific phone models. The iPad internal mic has the same issue. See http://blog.faberacoustical.com/2010/ip ... mitations/ I agree the iPad is a better platform for "real work," but it's too big to have on your person all the time. That paradigm may change, though, who knows?selloutrr wrote:I've had limited luck with the apps in the iphone I found the built in microphone to lack the frequency response needed to be precise. Which iPhone are you using, and does the cable assembly seem to be of high-quality? The 4-conductor, 3mm plug has been an issue with some of these systems, aparrently due to the tight tolerances required. Does it connect reliably? Is it noisy at all?jeremyb wrote:I have an iRig and amplitube and love it, great practice tool and at a pinch you could gig with it!!
