Re: homemade EL34s
It looks more like a new manufacture JJ than a NOS Mullard

I want two EL34's, for each end of the man room. They are just too darn cool, goes to show you that there's still room for niche products.Chad wrote:WowWould love to have one. To Cool

Hello Mike,
the monster valves are really wonderful, but how on earth do you make the "glass" domed enclosure?
Best, Tony

Re: homemade EL34s
Hello Tony.
Well I guess I'm going to give a big secret away here.
Everything you see in the valve videos I make myself in my workshop except for the glass which I buy in.
These glass domes are actually for those old weighted rotating clocks.
The ones I use are about 11" tall and about 5.5" diameter so the overall height of the valve is about 14.5" tall.
Any suggestions on what to build next????
Mike.

From a clock eh? My Grandfather had one of those clocks, but it was no where near that big.
Or maybe some kind of teutonic alpine Telefunken which you could tell the time with - it could perhaps have a cuckoo in it?
Staying in EL34 territory, how about a GEC or M.O. Golden Lion KT77? They have nice domed tops too.monstertubes wrote:Hello Tony.

A further suggestion: I just remembered the EM84 valve which you can set up as a VU meter. I am sure that there will be some youtube videos on that valve in action.
