frog hunting

Post by Andy Le Blanc »

I had a chance to grab a field recording of spring peepers here in Maine,
on the way home from work tonight, the little buggers came in at 80 db.
I'll try again the next couple nights, weather dependent....
I think I just might be able to get a mp3 together that can be sent PM...
thrill the neighbors, delight the kids, piss off the wife... good for giggles

80 db measure constant is incredible even on the home stereo
I have the chance to "present" them at volume in venue situations

heck of a thing, can't wait for the crickets this fall..

Neko Case has a frog track on her last cd, freaked me out when I first heard it.

80 db is damn loud, after about 15 minutes, the freq where the frog song
tends to ride started to really get to me, the sound of a car going down the
road was a strange relief.

We have a drainage ditch behind our house and every Spring the frogs hatch.
They are so loud at night that you can't hardly talk to someone in my back yard.

Then something will spook them and you can hear the chain reaction as they all stop croaking, kind of like a wave.
Sounds pretty cool when they do that but I don't really enjoy the loud noise at night.

Just be glad you can hear the little buggers. Too many years of loud music and loud machinery has made it so I can hardly hear the crickets chirping at night! It is a beautiful sound. I can still hear them when everything else is quiet.

That was always a welcome sound when the wife and I lived in the Mid-Atlantic. Yeah, they sure can make a happy racket. Must sound great on the home stereo!

I had the chance to bring it up to db in few small halls for brief interludes

college kids, and older hippes/ eco freaks love it, there's always a passionate
amphibian fanatic in every crowd, hopefully I'll get a moment to mp3 and post it
