A sticky Idea

Post by Andy Le Blanc »

I was thinking that another good file or sticky for the forum might be
pictures of old amps submitted by forum users, what cha think?

Isn't that what google is for?

how old?
what kind of pics? just the front or gut shots?

It would be interesting but not very useful unless each submission included all sides, gut shot, dimensions, iron numbers, and a schematic.

I like the idea. Consistant formatting would be nice, but no deal breaker for me. I think we all know what the insides of a Blackface Deluxe Reverb looks like, but some of the other gems that come through here would be worth documenting.

Or alternatively, see if the folks at Schematic Heaven would be interested in posting photos to go with the schematics. Then you would have everything in one place.

Thats the idea, whats the max number of attachment 4? 5? 6?

It would get you a cab, scheme, and internal at least.

with web sites being come and go it seems very practical

pretty easy to grab images of the forum and relocate if you feel its worth it.
even if its a quick description or a scan of a hand drawn scheme, it'll do

One of the problems with loading a forum server down with image files is that they take large amounts of hard drive space on the server.
And since this forum and server is not heavily maintained it might prove to be a detriment to it and load it down to where it does not respond well or quickly.

The best thing you can do for the forum would be to host your own pictures on an off site server dedicated to image storage such as Photobucket, Image Shack or Picasso.
Or hot linking from the internet to the post you make would also work better for the forum.

That way it won't bog down the forum and cause memory problems.

The Gear Page regularly closes down threads once they get to 1000 pages, and they don't even host the pictures on their server.

looking over this thread It already has several down sounds.
1.) you have to scroll thru other "fuss" to get to what you might be looking for.
2.) No index or ID of what and where the amp you might be looking for is. They are far better orginized on my personal hard drive.

IMHO it's pointless this forum is for Trainwreck and dumble amps. not a tech reference or amp porn.

I'm going to pull the pics I posted I'd rather use server space on something related to the forum.

If you really want this you should build a website and host it then link back to the forum with the address.
