Metro Amps Is Done

Post by Trout »

Wow,

This is another very sad thing to see. I really enjoyed building one of Georges kits.

He needed to stop and get his life back which it seems most was taken already. Very unfortunate situation for George and amp builders alike.

Kits can be a first class hassle. I test marketed ODS mod kits 10 years ago, with a couple of friends I trusted. A nightmare. You could write a Heath quality manual, and someone could still fuck it up.....He likely realized he could make more money and better use of his time making real amps for his own company and Ampeg etc.

Andy could you prepare a kit for me with complete instructions and if you pay a rather large shipping charge you could get guaranteed delivery for Christmas :D

Thanks, Mark

Sure Mark. For 10-K I'll personally fly out and supervise the build.

Great stuff from him. It's very sad. It's been a hard run for many of us.

Damn. I wish everything worked out for most people.

Yuck. What a nice guy. I always thought Metro was a classy operation with awesome customer service. I guess that same service is what killed the operation. I made the one hour drive to George's place a few times and he always dropped what he was doing to entertain me and let me snoop through his basement for old parts at nauseatingly low prices. As if that weren't enough he was even kind enough to let me pick his brain at a local establishment. Course, that was long before he got married when he actually had time to hang with schmucks like me.

At least his amplifier biz is still viable and it sounds like he's heating some other irons. I sure hope the forum continues. That place is jampacked with good info and knowledgeable members.

Very sad, indeed.

Everything I read over there leads me to believe the forum will stay live.

I did a rebuild/conversion of a SL100 a couple years ago using his board, parts ect. IMO that was one of the nicest amps I had in the past decade.

Most certainly, at least in the near future this will be a sadly missed resource.

I purchased parts from him occasionally and never had a complaint. Hopefully, this will be an opportunity for something better for him. You never know.

I really liked the aluminum marshall chassis he sold. Anyone know of another source for those?

I used to buy from George as well and I am glad he is able to continue building classic Marshall amps for people to enjoy.
