Eyelet Board Material
Hi Folks. Anybody have any ideas for readily available materials that could be used to make eyelet boards? I'm thinking of Home Depot and places like that.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Eyelet Board Material
If you can find thick enough Formica, that is what certain boutique builders have used in the past.
In fact I saw an amp that sells for $3,200 that used counter top material for circuit boards.

The hardboard from old clipboards works great and even has mechanical
and electrical ratings that improve with age.

i reckon you could sweet talk the local cabinet maker into putting aside some waste off cuts, probably better than 'dumpster diving' for itcounter top material for circuit boards
You could even colour match it to the amp...and eat your dinner off it

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really like the idea of using clip-boards or Formica. So Andy.. Will the tone of the amp mellow and improve as the clip-board ages?

Boards for sale in Toronto
Not sure if you specifically want blanks but there is a guy who sells boards in Toronto
A1 Electronics http://www.a1parts.com/
I have bought several from him and he is well priced. I find these boards a bit thin for my liking, but strong and they produce a tidy build at the same time. I also insert turrets in the middle row where needed
They look like these:

Hope this helps

Its pretty stable stuff, I tried it for giggles on a couple projects.
Ones been out the bars and fest gigs for a few years now, no issues.
Old clip boards are nearly everywhere for free. easy to machine etc..
Smells good when you over heat it a little with your iron.

Over here that clip board gear is called 'Masonite' (or was at least). My late father drove trucks and had dozens of sheets of it for protecting loads.
Not that I'm suggesting you hang out at truck stops waiting in the bushes for an unguarded Rig !.....

Formica was originally used as a man-made replacement for the widely-used natural insulator, Mica.Structo wrote:If you can find thick enough Formica, that is what certain boutique builders have used in the past.

The only cautionary note I have with counter-top or clipboard formica is that it's not been tested for electrical conductivity (insulator). Garolite/FR4 has been.
Re: Eyelet Board Material
Thanks for the link Markus. Never heard of them before. Looks like they have lots of cool stuff. I'll give those boards a try.

Re: Eyelet Board Material
Please do follow the cautionary....
I was surprised that hardboard has a rating. Its "natural hard fiber".
All things are equal after you dump a beer on the amp.
