Lennon was assassinated 30 years ago and not 20 years ago as the writer states.

Hmm, okay. So Gibson are issuing a $15,000 guitar to 'honour' John Lennon?

I'm sure that would sit well with his philosophies before he died.

About what you expect from Gibson these days though.

I'm with FYL. Yoko probably needs more cash flow.

can't you buy a vintage epiphone casino and a gibson JE-160 for way less then $15K and have his actual tone? Probably even a Rickenbacker and a few buck left for lunch if you were smart about where you purchased.

+1000!!! Exactly what I was thinking except I don't want one of those little Ricky 325s - ok if I opt for a 370 instead?

Seen this one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Pl ... 1611254.gc

The best part is: Save: (19% off list)

This crap is so extreme it's not funny anymore just a sign of a really f'd up world. Still, if someone ever showed up at a jam with one of those Jeff Becks that would indeed be humorous.

don't worry they aren't made for player or even collectors.

those signature blah blah reissue , remake, collectors, secret vault, .. you get the idea. the guys who buy those are stupid fans. the fans that are so caught up in the artist they are to stupid to realize what they are buying. Mostly doctors who are part time players trying to be cool or get laid at the after party. So when I'm talking about my 50's and 60's gibson les pauls with other musicians he can jump in and impress the blonde with "hey I've got a lennon customshop model.. "it cost me $15K" wink wink... I have knee pads in my porsche. ;)

I also think these things are loss leaders - flagship models like the Chrysler Cobra made to give cred to their pedestrian line, which is 90% their sales and mostly, sadly made in China, Korea, Indonesia. It's an upside down world, old Mustangs and Melody Makers were on every parameter the equal of their pro models and I'm sure Fender and Gibson took a hit in selling those uncompromised models. But looking at today's wildly over-priced custom shop stuff and I would reason if a pro guitar costs $8K that $600 MIM thing must be a real piece of crap!

But that's just me, everyone else is living upside down and thinking that their $850 Chinese LP shares the same magic as the $8K Custom Repro ones which share the same magic as the $50K real ones... BTW I think all the custom shops everywhere including Celestion keeping a few models in the UK are all loss leaders - created and maintained just to legitimize the imported mass market crap that is their real profit. If they thought they could get away with it they'd probably close all those shops down.

Look what I got for $450 on Craigslist. This thing will kick that 19K JB LP's ass all the way around the block, and then once more for good measure. My head's on right side up! :D

For $15k you could buy a higher end Everett guitar. I guess that tone is the after thought tho.
