I've finally got a Gibson that I like! Its a 2014 Les Paul Classic. Its missing a tone control which may have been useful for setting the clean tone on the neck pickup but after quite a bit of playing I found that I don't actually miss it. The boost just seems to increase the high end A LOT and doesn't give much of a boost, but I believe if you take the back plate off you can adjust it so may fiddle with it a bit to see if I can make it useable for solos on a low gain amp.

Anyway it was £400 cheaper than the Traditional and in my opinion looks better, sounds better and feels better! The neck is just right and is actually thinner than my Epi LP neck, pickups have great tone and I really like the look of the lower grade maple cap on this one. Not a huge fan of the flame maple, so this was a good choice for me. Only thing that may need doing is the nut slots need a bit of filing but for now its fine.

Was set up pretty badly by the shop I bought it from, truss rod was loose and action was set to 7/64 at the 12th Fret on the Low E! Tightened the truss rod, set the action using a capo and the 15th fret (nut action is slightly too high so 12th fret isn't an accurate way to measure it) and now she plays brilliantly.

Looks great! I've been following this thread because I've been on the hunt for new LP as well. I settled on a similar one that you did, mine is a 2014 Traditional Pro 50's neck. I bought from Guitar Center, and I was lucky enough to grab the last one unopened from back stock, and it had a better top (less flame) then the display model. Very happy with this guitar, glad you found the right one for you!

I am having a prs zach myers style made only with 24 frets, Its a single cut
more of les paul shape but the back of neck os flat satin finish which I do with extremely fine steel wool, the claim is your hand slides better on it.

You could consider that to remove light marks, but please get other opinions.

think the back of neck finish style is listed.

Littlewyan. I also bought the same guitar as you, I bought it because of the feel of it. I didn't care for the boost, but I love the neck pickup split....when I bought it the store said it was set up by Gibson USA. After playing it for a month I brought it back and said Gibson shouldn't claim they set it up when the guitar goes out of tune after 2 minutes of playing.....they took the guitar back and set it up for nothing and after a year, I still love it

I set mine up myself however the nut slots needed filing as they weren't really done properly. £15 later by a local shop I trust, the slots are filed correctly and the guitar plays even better than before. It was good to begin with but now it completely blows any guitar I've ever played out of the water.

Surprisingly I've found the coil split useful for one song I play with my band. Haven't yet found a use for the boost but you never know.
