Robin Grower - Bridge of Sighs

Tony
Mid 70's.
Me and three other lost souls dropped acid and went up to the top of a hill and I played Bridge of Sighs on my 8 Track player.
I had box speakers and put them outside the car.

Everything was moving to the music! :D

Fun times

Whenever I hear that album I have flashbacks.

Don't let that smoke out!

Pigmeat Jarrett boogie-woogie piano. When I got here in the early '80's this guy was a bit of local color. I used to go to see him play regularly at small clubs, and he'd even sit with us sometimes during breaks. Glad to see that someone recorded his playing, and that I was lucky enough to have seen him live. Listen to the story... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UMa8uJs8fw

About 3 weeks ago my wife was on the phone with her brother. We were getting ready to join them at their summer house on Keuka Lake (NY) and he says that Steely Dan is playing Canandaigua. Within the hour I had bought 4 seats in row UUU right center (last row in the shed). I think not bad for the timing and reasonably priced, too. On 7/26, they played about 2 hours non-stop to a sell out crowd and it was quite the show.

I searched youtube for quite a while to find something recent/relevant and found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABfedeCCTbE

Of course, memory is not always reliable. (I want to say the guy who shot this was about as far back as I was -- this was a different venue). My mind tells me they did much, much better on this tune for the show I saw. The solos were all at once liquid and solid, notes magically hanging where you wouldn't expect they could and sounding so right. The other guitar player (not Becker) strapped on an SG for Reelin' and it was the only time he used it all night and did the honors for this song. BTW, Becker had a red Dr Z but couldn't see what the other guy had.

I think there were 12 musicians on stage including Fagen and Becker and each of them had more talent than the next one. Execution was flawless and natural sounding. The drummer played his butt off. Everyone got at least one solo. What a show! I didn't quite realize this was on my bucket list, but now it is crossed off. Any, yes, the music stood the test of time.

You were about 45 minutes away from me, outside of Syracuse.

So, where were you on Friday night and what more important thing could you have been doing <rhetorical>? You could have had the other seats in row UUU!

New York is my home state and even though I haven't lived there since 1974, I still consider it home. I grew up on Long Island. I have driven the whole length of I-87 to Montreal, the Taconic parkway to Albany, I-90 from Boston to Buffalo (not all at once), and the whole of NY-17 (before it was I-86) when it was still scenic and I still remember the speeding ticket I got in Olean. I've been on many side roads, too. I went to the borscht belt with my parents. I've seen a good deal of the state and feel that it is one of the most scenic places I've been.
