I went though this process with Kinman (bad customer service) Dimarzio and finally to the suhr bpssc and by far the most accurate single coil sound is the real thing with the ssc. Just my 2 cents

Anybody reverse engineer those Suhr things yet?
Isn't it just a coil of some kind that sits underneath?

I haven't seen one or heard one for that matter but have been reading good things about them, seems like an easy thing to figure out given the talent here. :D

Well, just to balance the above opinion re Kinman, I found he responded to my emails last year promptly and personally. Even found time to talk shop and share jokes. He also did "his bit" to ensure I paid minimal tax on my goods. I've read comments of similar experience elsewhere on the Net.

I've no agenda nor affiliation with Chris Kinman other than being a satisfied customer.

Fender HO Noiseless

Using them in 2 different Strats. Purists may complain. But they offer a good compromise between Strat tone and dead quiet, AND they are inexpensive!

I've been happiest with lace sensors myself. my favorite strat has lace sensor blue in the neck, silver in the middle, and red in the bridge. It sounds awesome and can deliver so many different tones. I've never heard a better neck pickup than the blue lace sensor. it barks like a big duck!

Huh, when I looked at Suhr's site they were $325....
We must have a different opinion on what inexpensive is.

Structo I think you confused 2 different subjects. Check the subject in my blurb you will see it is regarding Fender HO Noiseless (about 129.00 for 3).

Sorry my bad.
I have the hot noiseless in one strat with a Dimarzio PAF in the bridge.
They work fine for me.

re: Suhr system...Steve Ahola was playing around with it a year or more ago. I don't know how far he got. The patent has so much information in it, that any DIY'er could get very close. I suppose Suhr is providing a surface mount board which is only as big as the trimpots vs. perf board. If they were $80 street, I would have bought three already. I don't understand his pricing strategy on that one.

Same here. I have used D'Mzio, Anderson, BLawrence, et al.....but the Kinman's I have are the shit (my opinion). I even put a Kinman 'Tele' PU in my strat bridge position, all ass backwards like a lefty strat too....and it rocks!

Update: I now have the full set in the guitar (Area 61 bridge, the other two are Area 58). I have played the guitar at our last rehearsal and I liked it. I thought that these pickups sounded every bit as good as the Fralin Blues Specials which they replaced.

I recently acquired a set of Bill Lawrence single coils. I put two of them (L-280 neck and middle) in my Grosh. Before that I had Häussels, WCRs and Tom Andersons in that guitar and I like the Bill Lawrence pickups best. On the other hand I am not a typical Strat player and think that most traditional strat type pickups are thin sounding.

The stratiest strat tone I ever got from my strat (which I regret selling!) was from a set of Lace Sensor "California" pickups. I'm not sure if they are still made by Lace, but they were dead silent, and just amazing.

I'm intrigued by the Lace Alumitones--anyone try them yet?

The only 'noiseless' strat pu's I can stand so far are the Kinman SCN. No sharp tone, not bad distorted. Any one figured out the backplate system yet?

I've heard from a couple of guys that have installed them.
They are an effects pickup.
In other words they are very neutral and don't really have a tone of their own like a strat neck pickup.
I think what most guys like about them is their cool looks and light weight.
