Re: Muscle Cars?
I grew up in an automotive family and have hi-test running through my veins. My first car was a 1964 Buick Skylark with a 300v8 and a 2spd super turbine auto trans. I had that car for ten years and the last engine I had in it was a 1969 Chevy 396 325hp (I know, it's what I had on hand!) with a TH400 trans. Tipping the scales at just over 3100 pounds it was a mover!
I've owned around seven or eight '64/65 Skylarks over the years and my current project car is a '64 Skylark that will be just like my first one when I get it done. Time and money are scarce for that project right now so it's just sitting, patiently, waiting to be finished. The motor has been rebuilt but I need to replace all the brakes, lines, hoses, etc. and have the frame blasted and powder coated. But here's how she sits right now and what it will look like when it's done.

I always loved those old Buicks.
Like the new TV commercial shows, they don't look like a Buick anymore....

Re: Muscle Cars?
A&A Supercharger installed. I'm going to need a source for inexpensive rear tires. You can depress the accelerator 3/4 of the way down at 60 mph and get sideways before the traction control kicks in. Freaked my wife out!
(I just thought it was awesome. Hee hee)

Re: Muscle Cars?
My first car was a 1966 Skylark. Wildcat 375 in turquoise mist with a white top. I was embarrassed to drive a 'grandpa' car. The Skylark was an old folks car back in the day.gui_tarzan wrote:I grew up in an automotive family and have hi-test running through my veins. Nice engine installation Jim.
Yes, my wife also freaks whenever the tires lose traction
Even in snow!
I was beside a brand new black Corvette the other day.
Didn't like pictures I have seen, particularly the tail lights that looked
like they stole them from the Camaro.
But in real life it actually was awesome looking.
A man and his gal, in their 70's tooling along.
I know why only older men buy Corvettes or any other sports car, it's because
only well established, older gentlemen, can afford the insurance!
Jim, Do you have any pictures of the whole car?

Somewhere but I couldn't find them earlier when I posted that. It really is just a rolling shell right now.

Structo, not sure which of us you wanted pics from, but this is the 04 Le Mans Commemorative Edition with the supercharger.

Many people ask me why I have the C5 generation (97-04) cars. Simple. I'm too tall from the waist up to fit in anything else. I scrape the top of my head on the underside of the C6 generation (05-13) roofs. I tried all three seat combos...Z06, Coupe, and Z51. In a convertible, my eyes line up with the top of the windshield support.
So I'll never be going to a newer Vette, which is why I got the 04 upgraded. The new brakes/rotors/pads and Z51 sway bars get there this week sometime.

Re: Muscle Cars?
Beautiful Vette Jim!
Love that blue color.
Lack of headroom in cars is something I'm familiar with too.
I like sleeper cars that keep everything hidden until you mash the pedal.

Re: Muscle Cars?
Thanks...and I'm in the stealth car camp as well. So no white, red, black, or yellow cars that scream for attention here. I like subtle tones until you romp on it.Structo wrote:Beautiful Vette Jim!

Re: Muscle Cars?
My brother has a Hellcat Challenger.
Re: Muscle Cars?
Is a fun car for sure. Being able to break them loose at will is a hell of w feeling. He's the only one who has one in our small city. I think another one sold at the same dealer he purchased his went to someone in Florida.
If you get a chance to ride in one do it.

Re: Muscle Cars?
I'd like to drive a Cheverolet SS as well, that said, I really like the newer Challengers.

Re: Muscle Cars?
Not a fan of the new SS but I do like the Mustangs. I think Chrysler nailed it with the challenger. I've always been a mopar guy but I like any old muscle car these days. Great to see them on the road.
Re: Muscle Cars?
The Chevy SS was only a limited production run so NASCAR could use the body for their Sprint Cup cars.
I was always a Chevy guy because that is what all my friends had and I learned a lot about them in my earlier years.
I had a 65 Chevelle SS and a 63 Belair.
Didn't really care for the new Camaro style but it has grown on me.
But I agree, there are a lot of good cars out there today.
I saw a beautiful new black Shelby Mustang a few months back.
The owner was walking up and I said it was a cool car.
He proceeded to drive over the curb in his parking spot and I cringed as
it made ugly sounds.
He was embarrassed and drove off.
The only thing I don't like a lot is the amount of plastic in cars these days.
You get into a fender bender and you are likely to experience a lot of damage.
