I prefer the old fashioned seed watermelons, much sweeter.
Yes, much sweeter. Our local vegetable stand finally got in their seeded watermelons. I bought a good sized one and it was $14

I'm pretty sure much of that was gas money to get to Seattle. I'd build a solar heated geodesic dome to mimic the temperatures in the south and make a fortune on watermelon, but after paying twenty bucks the other day for a measly portion of saffron threads, I'm thinking growing crocus sativus is the way to go. As soon as I can find the migrant fairies that harvest them.

LOL. I guess the tip is if you don't want major box produce and don't want to pay a lot, drive outside Seattle city limits.

That little vegetable stand probably pays 3k in rent every month.

At that price, I would be putting seeds from the rascal in the ground next late spring.

We know you are joking, but really, you shouldn't joke about this kind of thing on the very public interweb. Don't imagine for a minute that this sort of thing somehow evades the law-enforcement types with no sense of humor. Think, they are like those people who work for Homeland Sec at the airport. "Step aside sir. We need to inspect your luggage." Oh boy, for that itty bitty Swiss army knife I forgot to remove. I might have done something serious with that 1.3" blade (assuming it didn't fold back into the handle and cut me whilst trying whatever it was that I didn't have in mind). I don't think they ever so much as smile, ever.

Nahhh, I'm convinced as part of the induction ritual, they are required to undergo super secret gene therapy that insures smiling becomes an impossibility. The gubmint doesn't want anyone smiling on the job for any reason.

Well....this one got off course over a watermelon. So sorry. Anyone growing melons? They need a lot of real estate. Meanwhile, I've already picked about 10 tomatoes. Pretty tasty, too. More to come as weather should dry up and it will get hotter. The problem with the heat is that tomatoes don't like to set fruit leading to a spell of low production in about 5-6 weeks.
