I didn't toss the charged cap to just anyone.... Oh no, I tossed it to Mr. Francios, my high school electronics teacher. Something tells me he had already been down that road though.

I think the guy who's not scared of 10ufs should get together with this guy:
"I was just hoping I could add some Trainwreck flavor while I was in there. And I feel comfortable working on amps. Back when I was driving truck, I used to repair my CBs myself and have successfully made a minor mod to my Marshall JVM."
Could be fireworks.

To the OP.
This is the funniest thread ever. Miles, if you have a good voice you should consider doing stand up comedy. You'd make a ton of money.

That is a very fine compliment. I'll say thanks.
I have an idea that if life is kind of silly everything is ok even if it isn't. I think George Carlin said it best when he said everything he ever said.

I have an idea. We should all PM every new member to greet them.
Mods? Could this be automated? You signup, you get email confirmation. You login and there is a 10 hour popup smash game followed by a message that your inbox is full.

Holy shit.. 13,251 messages. These people suck..

Hehehehe, I'm afraid that is beyond my mod abilities but a confirmation email that says, RAFB (Read A F'ing Book) would be good.
Or please research your problem before seeking help.

In my professional career I had to achieve academic degree standards, pass rigorous tests, and keep current in skill sets through continuing education (CPE credits).
Perhaps we should have a basic aptitude and safety test here? I'm sure we could collaborate in composing such an exam. For instance:
Q 1: A Dumble is basically a Fender amp circuit with one resistor change? (select one)
(__) True
(__) False
(__) The question is ambiguous, a Fender is basically a Dumble circuit with one resistor change.
Q 2: What is the minimum electrolytic capacitor value that can be safely handled in-circuit with power applied? (select one)
(100 uF 600V) ___
(047 uF 600V) ___
(4700 uF 450) ___
(all of the above) ___
Laughter is the best medicine

Yes, seek help here:
www.dearshrink.com
in order to research YOUR problem.
Drop the amp off with a TAG member on your way.

We could apply Darwin's law to weed out the dummies.
See that 150uF 600v cap?
Touch it!

rofl Nick. I like multiple choices.
We need a shadow forum that disseminates bad information that we can agree with or just not mention, liability being what it is.
I wonder if Harmony Central is interested..

Re: STICKY Welcome to the Amp Builder's Malevolent Association
We could build a new guitar amp game, kinda like that old Operation game for the "I know where the deadly voltages are, they're inside the amp." guys. I know there are deadly voltages, but where exactly are they? You play the game by finding the non-lethal nodes by holding onto the chassis with your left hand while you hunt and peck inside the amp with this set of conducting tweezers. You lose when you find a lethal node. Then it's someone elses turn...
