Check out the "Moe's Space Ranch" CDs. Its Brett Garsed & T. J. Helmerich. I have but have not listened to the 2nd one one yet, but the first one is one of my fav current guitar albums out there. It's not the same old 1980's Garsed. Much better.

Oz Noy is cool and interesting and recently released a new CD...

I like OSI. They have a new CD out but I haven't gotten it yet.

Any of the last 3 Jeff Beck studio CDs. I like (the one titled) "Jeff" the best.

Well if you can appreciate some good rhythm guitar, great bass and drums, and a band playing off the beaten path (and not a single solo, but some great tones), you really need to check out these guys:

Their videos truly suck, so don't watch and just listen to the tones. I saw these guys live and they sound better live than the recordings.

Another band that kicks is Yeasayer:

http://www.myspace.com/yeasayer (check out 2080).

I remember an interview with Hendrix after he jammed with Clapton and he said something to the effect of "He's great, but it is a shame he never learned to play rhythm."

Don't know about recent, but last "pull the car over and find out who that is" moment was a live recording of Bireli LaGrene. There is also a cat that is now gone - Billy Rogers. An album was released awhile back that was produced from old bedroom scratch tapes. Dave Stryker put a rhythm section behind it. "The Guitar Artistry of Billy Rogers". I saw Billy Rogers play in a club right after I had seen George Benson on his Breezin' tour. Billy was the baddest ass. Played on some older Crusaders cuts. Thanks dogears for the great list of tunes!!
