Over here on the left coast, we have a lot of Indian (native American) names that are always mispronounced by reporters or other non natives.

One such city is The Dalles which is in the Columbia River Gorge.
It is pronounced The Dalls with a hard A, not The Dails with a long A.

In one crime show, the narrator said The Dails at least five times.

Another one is The Willamette Valley, where I live.
It is pronounced Will-lam'-et.

Often times people say, Will'-a-met.

In Washington state, there are even more Indian names that are frequently mispronounced.

In Michigan (and other northeastern states too), there are many places with French names (which are butchered unmercifully), and even worse, places with Native American names and French spellings.

I moved from So-Cal to a small German community in Alabama called Berlin...pronounced by locals as BUR'-lin (accent on BUR - soft lin or lun).
When I tried to correct them ( soft bur- accent on LIN) they would politely remind me that I just got here and they've been living here all their lives and it was definitely BUR' lun!!! accent on BURRR soft lun!!!

Heck the Easterners reporting on TV can't even pronounce Orygun right (always seems to be OreeeGONE). And there are a ton of towns and spots up in North Idaho with French names that just get butchered. My family lives on and around the shores of Lake Pend O'Reille (Ponderay) and even the darned OREGON reporters can't stop calling it "pend-o-reilly" like an auto parts store holdout.
