But you're juicing veggies and fruits, not chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. Other than the natural sugars found in fruits, which are still very healthy but something for a diabetic to watch, I don't think one can juice enough!
Yes, because of my condition, my doctor has advised me to "sip" the juice over a period of time, rather than drink down a whole glass at once. This is especially true for fruits and veggies that rank high on the glycemic index.
Guys, thanks so much for the support. Considering I've been on this forum for such a short amount of time, it's heartwarming to feel like one of the gang.
Diabetes sucks. There is a bunch of misinformation and stereotype about it too. You don't have to be overweight to get it or have it. I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago , type 2, not obese, don't smoke or drink too much either. There is a good book that helped me a lot, "the Diabetes solution" by dr. Bernstein. No, there is no cure, but you can manage it and lead a good life. Maybe, even be healthier than you were. Eating healthy is the key and exercise, I used to hope I could get off the meds, but probably not. I'm now glad to finally have insurance , so I can get to the doctor more and novolog is pretty expensive without insurance. Watch out for the fruit juice, eat a real apple. The only white food you should eat is cauliflower.

That's a common fallacy - it is still possible to consume excess calories.
It may be a first step toward getting healthy, but one needs to find a lifestyle of eating that they can maintain.
Lou - we're all pulling for you. Try to get a consult with a register dietitian with a certification in diabetes care. This is NOT a "nutritionist" but someone that has training in helping to establish a diet that will keep you healthy for LIFE.
I'm Type II shortly after I was placed on Statin for my quadruple bypass and ain't getting any exercise until the snow is gone and grass grows. Got a push mower with my name on it.

Yes, this is correct.

Again, correct. The juice fast is only the first step. It is meant to kick-start weight loss as well as adapting to a new dietary lifestyle. I'm not sure how long this step will last - the guy in the movie did it for two months before getting back on to solid foods. I will work closely with my doctor and get regular blood panels done to make sure I am not doing any damage. Ideally, I would like for this step to last 3.5 months, but I am not inseparable from this ideal. It's all going to depend on my blood work results and how I feel. After this step, I start adding raw veggies and fruits back into my diet, as well as nuts, seeds, and occasionally a steak or some chicken. My wife and I had decided to it's a good idea to seek out a local butcher who gets his product from small, local ranchers. We'd like to find a source of beef and chicken that has not been raised on growth hormones and antibiotics. I've also decided that from this point forward, I will stay away from dairy, gluten, and processed sugars.

Thanks for the tip, and the encouragement, Zippy..
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
Glad to here you are doing something about it.
.I don't know shit I way nearly 300lbs myslef(38" waist though) but I wouldnt get to crazy on any fad diets just eat good fresh food lots of berries and nuts fresh greens. The organic meat is a great idea.
Youve got to walk or do some excersize sweating is a great way to get rid of toxins
I dont think there is anything wrong with dairy you just dont need that much.
If you can find fresh milk it is very benificial for your immune system.
Also buttermilk and yogurt are excellent for your digestive system.
Anyway stay healthy we want you to stick around for a long long time.
I've been a health nut for most of my life, but could still improve some things, like late night carb snacks.
There's a place down in Red Bluff called Big Bluff Ranch that does Chicken, Pork, and Beef, all pasture raised. They may do the farmers market in Redding still. About as high quality as you can get.
Did a juice fast back in the early 90's and some smaller ones since then, along with some other cleansing/detox stuff and it really does get you off to a good start.
I need to start exercising more, I get held up with my bad panic attacks, but playing in my new rock outfit and singing I can tell I'm out of shape by the end of each song.
I'm gonna head on over to facebook to cheer you on.
Speaking of pot. Be careful it will crash your blood sugar. Hence the craving for carbs. It's a vicious cycle from there. Quick carbs equals weight gain equals high blood sugar .

Haha, I am surrounded by pot growers, it's readily available, but I don't partake...

It's good you don't. That stuff causes short term memory loss, and the munchies. Makes you forget the 12 NOS Twinkies you ate an hour ago.
