Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
Coffee problems are a bad way to start the day. I use the one-cup filter funnel method.
Let me know how that coffee enema works out. I hear you should use very diluted coffee. Don't know what happens if you use full-strength.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?
Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
I go into a McDonald's once a decade. Supposedly they have "gourmet" coffee now, to go with their pink slime meat I suppose. Last McD's pre-gourmet coffee I had tasted like the hot chocolate Linus made for Lucy - hot water with a brown crayon in it.
You are all making it very complicated for poor Reeltarted, one cup Melitta is all you need. Get a cheap $20 grinder and grind each cup as you make it. Develop a feel for the right timing/pulsing on the grind and you won't need a $150 burr grinder. Super easy, quick, reliable, and kettle water gives you a much hotter cup than that Mr Drip tepid stuff.
For the after lunch or afternoon pick me up I suggest you go Italian. A spike of anisette or cognac should be on hand. Send out for petit fours if you are feeling hungry.
Make no more than you need to 1/2 - 2/3 fill a demi tasse, you pour the rest out. Otherwise you are an espresso barbarian. That's why they make 1, 3, 5, 7 etc cup machines. If you are one use a 1 cup, if two use a 3 cup... If you pour a 5 cup Moca into a single mug you better not tell anyone whose name ends in a vowel. I believe in Italy you can get 6 months in jail for drinking a large Moca pot yourself.
My mom said only ever buy a Bialetti, all others are crap. You should listen to my mom.
If you like tea get a Saturday Night Live "Mr. Tea" - "It boils the water, you do the rest!"

You guys are so lucky you can afford water and coffee.
I only have three walls on my house and winter has come. burr.
Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
As your colon does most of the water uptake in you body, I could guess: You walk on out the door with nothing but boxers and stocking feet, in January, in the NE, waving your arms around, mumbling loudly, solving all the world's problems. You don't come back for 3 days.boots wrote:Let me know how that coffee enema works out. I hear you should use very diluted coffee. Don't know what happens if you use full-strength.

Ummm, Mark. Why do you only have three walls?
You've probably built enough amps you could stack them up to make the fourth, though...

Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
The Hamilton Beach 12 cup coffee maker died a week or so back. It was just a 10 cup model in reality as the filter cup was so short it overflowed. My wife and I always fought over the last cup.
Went to Costco and got a 14 cup Cuisinart. No runs, no drips or overflows so far, so I'm reasonably happy. And since it has 14 cup (i.e. read
capacity, we both get our three cups and there's a little leftover for emergencies or guests.
Sorry to hear you're hammered with lack of coffee, RT.

Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
Anybody else have a Chemex? I used one (still have it, actually) back in the late 70's - early '80's. I guess it's a vintage piece now, but they are still sold at some kitchen shops.
I liked my Capresso drip machine with its thermal carafe, but it died a month or two back. Back to a Cuisinart with a built-in grinder I don't use and a plain glass carafe with a hot plate under it. The wife just can't resist a sale. I keep telling her stuff is put on sale because people aren't buying it, and there might just be a reason for that. I'd have gone for a Zojirushi.

rp's melitta - since I break everything else in my kitchen, that's what I use now. Budget doesn't allow hi quality fresh ground beans, although that's recommended for those who can afford. Good ol' Chock Full o' Nuts does the trick. 2 scoops per mug. When it's snow shoveling season, add whisky. My neighbors wonder why I'm happy shoveling snow.
Percolator - if you can score one of those old Pyrex glass ones, that's the bomb! So cool to watch it work & perk. My friend the local classic rock DJ has one.
What about that dog toaster Miles? It's always better to toast the roll first.

Each time I see that I laugh. I want that little dog, but stunted so he'll never grow up.

Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
This never happens to me. I have 5 coffee makers that work and two I'm going to fix up when time allows. I far more frequently forget to get coffee beans when I run out. Down to Peet's in my jammys for 16 oz of brew and some more beans.
More or less in this order:
1) Braun 12 cuppa with vacuum pot and no pot burner.
2) Melitta 10 cuppa with vacuum pot and short duration pot burner (this actually makes the best brew but the vacuum pot don't work for shit)
3) Cuisine Art combo grinder brewer burner upper
4) Cuisine Art 4 cuppa with pot burner
5) One of them stolen outta the motel Hamilton Beach 4 cuppas
I will not be denied. Carry a 9mm.
Cuisine Art burr grinder.

Leo, that dog pic always cracks me up, makes me think of the Roger Waters lyrics (and Reg the dog) in this song, around 4:30...Leo_Gnardo wrote:Faith n begorrah! Shades of Angela's Ashes!Colossal wrote:He burned one to keep the other three warm.gktamps wrote:

Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
Chemex rigs available at my local coffee spot "The Ground Hog". I'd get one but I know what happens to glass items in my kitchen - and these ain't exactly cheap.martin manning wrote:Anybody else have a Chemex? Miles, that pic is so old I'm sure the little hot dog long since grew up to be a big dachshund, well, as big as they get. Local family used to have one, called it Frankie, for frankfurter. The little so & so used to climb the hill and pester me while I did my yard work, trying to "claim its territory." Made me laugh, it was so small, trying to assert itself and chase me away. That ain't gonna work.

Re: MY COFFEE MAKER BROKE
I used to have one when I was like 6. Her name was Gretchen and the lady who watched me in the afternoon couldn't say Gretchen.
Ok, Poochie it is.
You know your drag name is your first pet's name and your mother's maiden name. My awesome drag name would have been Gretchen Mutimer.
What a tart. Ah well.
