I went through that too - I left a deposit and finally wrote it off when I didn't hear from the builder for years. He stopped building for quite a while as he went through some personal Stuff. When I heard through the internet grapevine that he was building again and contacted him, he apologized and built me the guitar within the year. It's my favorite guitar now - everything I had hoped for - and I've sold several of my other acoustics since receiving it.

Enjoy. That's a fine looking 'Paul.

OK, so now I don't feel so bad for the multiple projects I have for myself at 80% completion.

I have owed someone a half-price telecaster for almost a year. When it became impossible to live off the work load some of the friendly customers had to take a painful ride with me. Sucks. Owing favors is a thing, owing property is another. I haven't worked on an instrument since me and cbass were talking about binding.. 14 months? Setup and repairs a little, but no building.

You know what dies with a destroyed economy? Brain trust. I wish I had enough work to pass the skills along to another much younger person. Building instruments is almost a spiritual occasion for me. I have several partially completed projects that will never be.

Gents, thanks for all the kind words. Trust me, when this one is done, I'll be posting some "Holy Crap...only 7 years waiting and you too could have this guitar!" type pics.

Beautiful but you still haven't told us who the builder is.

Great color.

I see a few cosmetic flaws. Send it to me. I'll fix them free, but it might take me a while, maybe 8 years or so.

Wow, how time files sometimes. Really, it looks great. Let's hope it plays half as good as it looks, and you'll be in LP heaven.

Great color.
He was on another forum you and I were members of (I quit). That's all I'll say until our business is finished. He's got four more to deliver to clients I referred him to and he's way behind (re: YEARS) on delivery.

Lovely color and work, though. Can't wait to get it and try it out. For those who want to know what's installed...

Gibson parts:
Two real PAF's, 7.4k neck, 8.2k bridge
Historic plastic, lightweight tailpiece and new steel anchor studs, "no wire" ABR-1 bridge.

Old Grover tuners. CTS pots, real Bumble Bee caps (.017 neck (drifted up in the last 50 years, .033 bridge)

Switchcraft jacks/toggle switch.

8 years and $8000 plus later, I hope so, too. Keep in mind the PAF's, and other "parts" (case, etc, too) came to almost $4k of the total.

The initial negotiated price was $4500. I had to supply some things which brought it down to $4k...but the rest was stuff I insisted on having in it.
